If your fitness journey is determined by your starting point and your personal end goal, why is it so easy to compare yourself to fitness models on Instagram? Sometimes you might not even realise you do it, and you’re not alone. We have had an interesting discussion about this topic at Body Reach HQ and it turns out we are all guilty of doing it. We follow accounts for inspiration but if approached recklessly you can end up doing more harm than good. Furthermore, these Instagram models that we admire will all have their own list of insecurities but just don’t show it. In a world where social media is now normal, it’s even more important to look after our own mental health.

It is perfectly fine to have idols or goal physiques because that motivates you to put your best effort into nutrition and training. However, if you think too much about others you can forget to be a better daily version of yourself. This can be catastrophic to your positive intentions and throw you completely off course.

At Body Reach we care about our clients mental health during their fitness journey. That’s why we advise our clients to do these three things:

  1. Set a long term goal (long is the key word here, slow and steady progress will yield long term results). For example a specific item of clothing you want to fit into or a certain way you want to feel about your health and well-being.
  2. Break your long term goal up into short term, weekly targets. Focus on these daily and celebrate every time you achieve one. For example complete a home work out on Monday, Wednesday and Friday.
  3. Review your progress at the end of each week. Did you achieve your targets set for the week? If so then celebrate that, be proud of yourself. If you didn’t, what got in the way? Can you make any adaptations for the following week?

Focusing on small victories and marginal gains accumulates into huge long term transformations. And this is exactly how Body Reach are helping men and women across the world achieve their full potential.
