Flap jacks are one of my favourite go to foods when I’m craving something sweet, so I wanted to share my healthy flap jack recipe with you all. I just love the texture and how different they are to your usual chocolate based treat. I’ve been known to buy one of those plastic boxes full of tiny flap jack bites and just eat the lot! At Body Reach we really don’t want you to cut out any foods or food groups. We encourage all of our members to create a balance within their lifestyle that means they can enjoy sweet food and not feel any guilt. This is really important to us. Why I make healthier versions of food:
Since becoming a mum I am much more conscious of the food I expose my daughter to. I also really want her to create a positive association with all food groups. That being said I am incredibly aware of the actual content that is in packaged food, in particular all the artificial sweeteners listed on the back of packets that you can’t pronounce. This is why I have a new found passion for creating healthier versions of food so that I am not worried about the amount of refined sugar she is eating. Below is the recipe for my peanut butter and raspberry flap jacks that are butter, egg, flour and refined sugar free. The batch makes about 20 squares with roughly 178 calories in each.
Healthy Flap Jack Recipe Ingredients:
80g coconut oil 190g peanut butter 160g honey 50g oat flour (if you don’t have oat flour just blitz 50g rolled oats in the blender) 280g rolled oats 200g fresh or frozen raspberries
Mix the melted coconut oil, peanut butter and honey together in a bowl and put to one side. In a different bowl mix the oat flour and rolled oats together. Combine the wet and dry ingredients together and mix until all of the oats are covered. Finally add in 200g frozen or fresh raspberries and put into a lined baking tray. Bake on 180 degrees for 20 minutes max. Let them cool before cutting (this gives the coconut oil chance to set). It’s really that simple! Whether you’re in a deficit, a maintenance phase or a surplus, account for roughly 178 of your daily calories and you can enjoy a healthy flap jack 100% guilt free.
