If you want to lose body fat, you require a sustainable calorie deficit which means your body must be slightly under fed in order to burn its fat stores. This is typically 500 to 1,000 calories per day beneath the amount of energy that maintains your body weight (maintenance calories). No weight gained and no weight lost. This is where you want to be for optimal health and performance.

Can you lose body fat when not tracking calories? yes but its much trickier and less versatile. Can you drop fat without doing traditional cardio for weight loss? Most certainly!
